Cymbidiums are in bloom

cymbidium021616.JPGI purchased this NoID cymbidium from Trader Joes this past week.  It had two spikes, each with several flowers in bud.  This morning, the buds started opening.

This plant is sitting in our Solarium.  I purchased it as an experiment to see if orchids could be grown in the Solarium.  These plants need bright light, and can take changing temperatures.  The four windows on the solarium top are currently uncovered, and admit full sun.  I will place 50-60% shade cloth over the windows on April 1.  I will purchase a new humidity meter to monitor the humidity and temperature in the room, and see what happens.

Colorful experiment!
