Stanhopea Embreel

Embreel071016.JPGI purchased this Stanhopea Embreel from the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate in my visit to their open house on July 8th.  It has a single bloom spike, with four flowers in “bud”, that should bloom soon.  It also has a new leaf coming.

I have placed this 3 inch pot in a hanging basket (supported by crumpled newspaper around the pot to support it), with the bloom hanging over the side, and it will remain this way until the flowers fade.  I will then place it in a 6 inch basket to let the blooms proceed out the bottom of the pot, as is usual with this species.

These blooms should be highly frangrant.
