Potinara Free Spirit ‘Twenty-four Carat’ x Sophronitis Coccinea ‘Gold Country’

FreeSpirit120116.JPGI purchased this Potinara Free Spirit ‘Twenty-four Carat’ x Sophronitis Coccinea ‘Gold Country’ at the Gold Country Orchids open house on November 18th.  I was looking for a small potinara, and the red-orange flowers on this plant caught my eye.  The flowers faded immediately however, and I repotted the plant (from a small clay pot with old sphagnum moss to better moss in a plastic pot) right away.  It has three new leads, and should grow into a good specimen.  Probably will bloom twice per year.

Alan Koch of Gold Country Orchids told me that “free spirit” was one of his best parents, and he had several small potinaras around the greenhouse that had this plant in its ancestry.
