Osmoglossum puchellum (sib) (‘Snowman’ x ‘Spring Snow’)

Osmoglossum123016.JPGI purchased this Osmoglossum puchellum (sib) (‘Snowman’ x ‘Spring Snow’) from eBay vendor letstalkplants on December 23rd.  This is an “Orchid Zone” plant, and I have been looking for one for some time.  It currently is in good condition, with three spikes in bloom.  I noticed that lots of debris came out of the plant when I ran water through it, and it probably needs to be repotted, as the original bark is decomposing.  I will take care of that when the plant stops blooming.

This plant is found in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica as a medium sized, cool to cold growing, epiphytic species from montane forests at elevations of 1200 to 2600 meters.  They do best in semi shade avoiding the hot afternoon sun.  Many recommend that they should be grown in a shady spot low down in the greenhouse.

A nice acquisition for the collection.
