Encyclia (Summer Perfume x Adenocaule v. Kennedy) is in bloom

Encyclia051217.JPGI purchased this Encyclia (Summer Perfume x Adenocaule v. Kennedy) at the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate in my visit to their open house on July 8th, 2016.  I planted this into a net pot, with a bark mix surrounded by sphagnum moss to contain the plant.  I envisioned that it would need to dry out quickly, and that this mix would do the trick.  It is hanging in my solarium close to the Hydrofogger, and thus gets the humidity generated by the fogger directly.

The plant has been very happy in this environment, and is now in bloom with a single spike and several purple flowers.  It has two new growths, and roots growing out of the net pot in many places.

A good plant.
