Wilsonara Pacific Command ‘Huina Road’ is in bloom.

Wilsonara051217.JPGWilsonara Pacific Command ‘Huina Road’ is one of my oldest orchids.  I purchased it from a Safeway approximately three years ago and took it to our mountain cabin.  It stayed there for about six months, and then I placed it in our orchid room, planted in semi-hydro.  There it languished for several years, never flowering.  I divided it once, keeping the good pseudobulbs, and it grew better bulbs, but it still did not flower.  Three months ago, I repotted this into a bark mix, placed it on the floor near the windows in the solarium, and gave it the “last chance” speech.

It spiked almost immediately, and is now in flower with a tall spike with over 20 flowers.

Go figure!

(I should note that this is a “no tag” orchid, and the name of the plant is mine after searching the net for some time.  It is the closest match I could find.)
